Curriculum vitae
Tuomas Vuorinen
I've never been good at picking one thing - and I've stopped seeing that as a problem. I'm a hands-on generalist who learns by doing. Born in Finland, raised in Sweden and Australia, I started working at 15 delivering pizzas by e-bike and have been earning and learning ever since - across countries, industries, and disciplines.
Along the way I've picked up languages, trades, and a habit of building software for the things I love. I'm currently finishing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, a field I chose because it sits exactly where I like to be: at the meeting point of deep theory and practical, hands-on application. That instinct runs through everything I do - I'd rather build something than just read about it.
Languages
- Finnish Fluent
- Swedish Fluent
- English Fluent
- German Basic conversational
- Russian Reads Cyrillic script
Projects
I build software for the things I'm into - fishing, climbing, music. Most start as a personal itch I want to scratch. I'm not a trained engineer, but AI tooling has closed the gap between my ideas and my ability to build them, and I ship working things.
kalakeli.club
An app for sea trout anglers that aggregates catch data and correlates it with live weather conditions to predict ideal fishing windows. Built from my own frustration as an angler with a notoriously difficult, patience-demanding pursuit.
Climbing Journal & Training App
A climbing logbook with a custom backend for tracking progress and planning workouts. No public access: it's hosted on www.didymus.xyz, the private site I use for my projects. If you'd like access to a specific tool I've made, feel free to email me.
Study
A personal study dashboard for my physiotherapy degree: tasks, spaced flashcards, a searchable physio reference (anatomy, special tests, clinical sheets), and Canvas deadlines - all client-side, with import/export so the data stays mine.
2D Fishing Game
A small game built to learn game development fundamentals. Made for fun as a joke based on a fishing trip with some friends.
Personal Website
Designed and built to showcase my work, projects, and writing.
Select work experience
My work history is broad rather than linear - it reflects curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to take on anything across multiple countries. A selection:
ML Trainer (Remote)
Trained machine learning models to detect wildfires in California by annotating imagery - marking out fire elements in photos to build and refine the model's detection accuracy. Hands-on work at the data end of a real-world early-warning system.
Soccer Coach
Coached and mentored young players; leadership and communication.
Aircraft Cleaner
Time-critical work to strict standards in a high-pressure aviation environment.
Warehouse Operative
Assembled agricultural equipment; picking, packing, and fulfilment.
Warehouse Operative
Logistics and order fulfilment.
Personal Carer
One-on-one care for a 10-year-old child with autism; patience, trust-building, adaptability.
Market Researcher
Structured data collection and communication.
Retail & Operations
Wide-ranging responsibilities across stock, service, and daily store operations.
Military service
Combat Engineer (Pioneeri), Coastal Jaeger Battalion
I deliberately chose Dragsvik, a Swedish-speaking regiment, as a personal challenge - I hadn't spoken Swedish in the 14 years I'd lived in Australia, and I wanted to throw myself back into the language fully. I completed my service as a combat engineer in a demanding coastal infantry unit, trained in field engineering, demolitions, and operating under sustained physical and mental pressure. It sharpened my discipline, teamwork, and resilience - and got my Swedish back to fluency.
Education
My academic path was a process of elimination. I explored science, paramedicine, and philosophy & political science before landing on physiotherapy - the field that finally combined the theoretical depth I enjoy with the practical, hands-on work I need, and a skill ceiling I'll never hit.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy
Earlier studies:
- → Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Political Science - University of Queensland
- → Bachelor of Science - QUT
- → Bachelor of Paramedicine - University of Southern Queensland
Community & leadership
Community Cleanup Organiser
On my own initiative, I organised a volunteer cleanup at my local nature reserve, bringing together a dozen people to collect over 20 large bags of rubbish in a single day. It's a small example of something I try to live by: acting on what I believe in, rather than just thinking about it.
Skills
Repair and maintenance of cars, motorbikes, bicycles, boats, and boat engines.
Full-stack app development, Linux, self-hosting, AI-assisted building, ML data annotation.
Red Cross First Aid certified; clinical foundations from paramedicine and physiotherapy studies.
Coaching, caregiving, cross-cultural communication, cooking.
Licenses & certifications
- → Australian Open license - car & motorcycle
- → Finnish driving license
- → Red Cross First Aid certification (current)
